The central element of the ‘Discover Elefsina’ project is the ‘interactive game’ with the cards and the map. This interactive game aims in enhancing the end user’s satisfaction and in eliminating dullness. A map full of information and extensive illustrations would be difficult to use. With the introduced interactive game, the users can easily skim the whole map, and find those elements that mostly interest them. The interactive element introduced and the presentation of the points of historical importance through the accompanying cards, both realize my efforts to find a better way to introduce my city, Elefsina. And I do so, by replacing a typical, touristic city map, with a much more fun-to-use map, but still as complete as the classic one. In that way, one could argue that the so-called ‘UX’, a.k.a. User Experience, often associated with mobile applications, is applied from a graphic design perspective on rather unconventional products, such as a traditional, printed touristic map and the advertising leaflets. As a result, the concept of innovation in communication is also employed to serve the main goals of the present project.
